I went out for awhile to tell Brian where I wanted some petunias planted, then ended up staying out quite a bit longer, trimming roses and other plants. It has been really nice weather here, pretty days and only about 70 degrees. In fact some nights are almost a little chilly! Our Gravenstein apples were ripe, so Brian, Julia and Austin picked them all. Lauren picked a few. Austin was a little scared about climbing so high on the ladder, until Brian went behind him. Julia was holding the ladder so it wouldn't tip over. ;) We got a lot of apples this year! There are two of those plastic window boxes overflowing with them. I plan to make applesauce with them, though I don't know when....
Austin was rigging things up again... He said the slide was a bridge.
Caroline gives us this one-eye-open face quite often.
Julia wanted to make Treasure Stones, a craft from her Clubhouse Jr. magazine. The stones are made of used coffee grounds, flour, salt, sand, and water. She rolled the "dough" around a treasure. For treasures she used beads, buttons, and craft jewels. Then we baked them in the oven to harden. The next day she hid them around the backyard for Austin and Lauren to find. Austin also got a few to hide in the dirt for playing mining.
July 19
Brian's trying to put Caroline to sleep here. Usually she wants to be nursed to sleep. She does not like the pacifier so far! A few times we've gotten her to sleep with it, but most the time she tries to spit it out and cries. Caroline really is a good little baby! She is a good little sleeper and peaceful most of the time when she's awake. She fusses when she is hungry, tired, or has bubbles in her tummy. Only when she has a good reason (all of my babies have not been so good!) She does well at night too, and has slept 4 and 5 hour stretches. I woke up before her those times! Usually she sleeps good 3 hour stretches at night, so maybe 4 hours between feedings?
July 20 was Caroline's first Sunday at church. She got lots of attention. She cried right in the middle of the service, so I had to take her out to feed her. Afterwards a few people told us they got a kick out of that, hearing her obviously newborn cry. She received this rose too, and her birth announcement was in the bulletin. Julia picked this dress out for Caroline to wear. All the girls have worn it; it was Julia's first Easter dress.
July 21: Sunday night, shortly after the kids went to bed, Julia came running out saying Lauren was throwing up. Poor Lauren threw up three more times that night. Brian gave her a bath and cleaned the carpet. I changed her bedding. And did a ton of laundry Monday. She is back to normal again now.
"Hewwo, Tawowine!" We all like visiting with Caroline when she is awake (which is only for a short time every day!!). Lauren likes to bring Caroline stuffed animals when she cries, and tells me, "Maybe Tawowine needs a tiend (friend)..."
Looking soooo serious.... we said she was showing her muscles here. Ha ha
On the Banks of Plum Creek is on the coffee table. Julia started it Sunday and finished it Monday, and then proceeded to read (and finish) a Grandma's Attic book she'd checked out from the church library, as well. And then went on to start Little House in the Big Woods (yes reading the series out of order, oh well.).
We didn't do a whole lot for my birthday this year, having the new baby and all. Brian and the kids gave me a few gifts and Brian picked up a chocolate truffle cake that we ate last night. It was very delicious (and very rich)! A lady from church made dinner for us, which was nice.
